One of the definitions of insanity is when a person clings to fantasies in the face of a changing and contradictory reality. He or she might walk into a fire because it wasn’t there yesterday.

We should throw a net over these people and put them somewhere they might receive treatment or at least not bring harm to themselves and others. And we would unless they were disguised as religious fanatics or politicians. Those we allow to wander the streets and airwaves with announcements of Armageddon and apocalypse, how to lead a better life, and even why we must change or give up standards that have withstood the test of time.

We are about to enter another period of politicians appealing for votes in what might be called the greatest show on earth. People that want to be our representatives in Washington. People that want to be lawmakers or solve some of the injustices prevalent. This is the same “democratic” system our current leaders claim should be spread across the globe at the point of a gun while telling us that democratic nations don’t make war.

Time after time, the majority of eligible voters in our own country don’t even bother to go to the polls. For the last several years, turnout for major elections has been less than half, less than fifty percent. And we just had primaries where in my home town the weather was fine but only twenty percent of the eligible voters showed up to vote. Still, the winners are liable to view their victory as a mandate.

Once again we are about to hear calls for things like improving the education of our children, how they are the future, and so forth, even though little has seemed to come of it in the past and our problems are much more immediate. Better education requires almost a generation for improvement to show so it's a safe issue for a politician to employ.

Too many people have learned that no matter who is elected little will change. Once the politicians that promised so much actually get into office it reverts to business as usual and there isn’t much difference between our two parties. We can’t even improve the simplest things like voting on weekends instead of on Tuesdays.

As an example, how crazy is that for an administration trying to promote this system around the world and where “democracy” is the latest and last excuse for our preemptive invasion of Iraq and the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children plus poisoning our own troops?

The latest craze is to promise to clean up the culture of corruption, but this promise comes from candidates who have already sworn allegiance to one of the two political cults that caused this “culture” in the first place and these candidates did so just to have their names put on the ballot and get the additional financing that has become so crucial to winning.

Most of all, we have a president who is certainly not the brightest leader we’ve ever had, but is a living example of contradiction, delusion, and denial. Almost everything he says about “terrorists” applies twofold to his own behavior.

On top of that, he claims to “understand” everything and stubbornly sticks to his own vision of reality in the face of challenges and realities too numerous to mention but ranging from invasions and never ending war, through the abandonment of treaties meant to protect humanity, sponsoring torture, open borders and Trojan horse containers in our ports, monopolies in everything from business and essential utilities to entertainment, outsourced jobs and defense contracts, and eventual financial collapse.

The continual buildup of our military Empire, what has spread from many presidents, has brought us fame as pariahs and terrorists to the rest of the civilized world. All while the naïve call for pulling our military out of Iraq without realizing that we’re building more bases there which will be permanently manned by our military to stage future invasions.

Meanwhile, our elected representatives in Washington have temporarily chosen wire-tapping as their main beef against our leader. A crime that’s of sufficient import, but chosen only because it’s one of the evils with which they are not complicit.

It’s time to get our nets out folks. We should be casting them over every politician and appointee in Washington and sending most of them to our critical care facility in Guantanamo.
